I just don't know if what I got it what I like. I mean, I like the table- I think it's great, but I don't know if it's a step towards my end goal.

This looks like a glass table- I don't love the table- but I love the feel- I absolutely love it.
This one feels so comfortable- I think it's the wicker, and I don't particularly love any one piece of this room- but it works well together.
I like the industrial mix in this one. It works very well together.
I love this plank table and the mixed chairs. This is wonderful, and actually is the same room as above before a redesign.
So delicate- so fancy.
Love the see through, slip covers- love them.
Love the tables- love the slip covers, all so pretty.
Although this looks very formal, the slip covers lighten things up a bit.
Don't love all the plants- but, the chairs and table are fantastic.
The above picture is my favorite- I absolutely love the table. ABSOLUTELY love it- it's organic.
Again, a favorite- Floors, table- chairs, lighting- so fabulous.
The last of my favorites. Do you love these lights? Wonderful.

Is it too warm? Is it too traditional? Do we less than love the legs? I think that I can put slip covered chairs with it and it could be perfect... ideas?

Update: After a sleepless night, and tears actual TEARS of confusion, husband felt pity on me and called and asked for a refund on my table. I was so stressed about finding the right chairs and lighting that would work for my end goal. Ah. I didn't sleep a wink- and if you know anything about husband, you know that he would have absolutely have no pity on me if I got it all set up and hated it. Basically, I need to love it or live with it.
The hunt continues. Thanks for all your wonderful opinions, we are all headed in the right direction slips, lights, straight legs.

ReplyDeleteI like it-You have such good taste that you can change a look with accessories. You are starting with a beautiful basic piece.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good piece - I do like the trestle table style better just because people seem to bump legs and chairs on the corner legs - trestle style seems more open to me. But I see a lot of variety with this table - the wood is a good color and nice grain. You could lighten the look or darken it, like Joan says, with good accessories and slip covers are so versatile. And I do love those hurricane glass hanging lights.
ReplyDeleteIn looking at all your pictures, I notice you are drawn to mostly tables with straight legs...simple tables with chairs that really dress up the table. This table is already very nicely dressed with its pretty legs. That doesn't mean you shouldn't keep this one though....some of my best pieces of furniture I had buyers remorse over. It is a pretty table and it is versatile. Seems like slipcovered chairs would look nice with it....but I'm one of those people that doesn't visualize well...I have to paint a room to see if the color works! Not sure if my observations helped....but I hope so. Take care!

ReplyDeleteAll of the tables that you like are a little more rustic - a little less 'finished' - meaning, they don't have the smooth veneer manufactured look. They seem a little more natural and unfinished.
It is not too difficult to find tables like what you are searching for, but you usually don't find them in the big department store furniture places.
This does not mean that they are more expensive - not at all - you just have to go to different kinds of places to find a table like this.
I actually love the new tables in the Restoration Hardware catalog - they have more of the natural look. I also like the tables at Bobo Intriguing Objects (take a look at their web site) and the tables at Tritter Feefer (also take a look at their website).
In Atlanta, we have great once a month antique flea markets where tables like these are plentiful. I have also thought about maybe getting a carpenter or cabinet maker to make a cool table for me - after all, many of my favorite tables look like wide plank floors, so I don't see why wide plank flooring material can't be used to make a table. If a wood is hard enough for a floor, you know it is hard enough for a table!
